Explore our transformative journey with "Matt's A3 Build" at Matt's Speed Shop, where we take a 2016 Audi A3 Premium Sedan equipped with a reliable EA888 2.0 L Turbocharged engine, initially producing a modest 210 whp, and elevate it to new heights of performance and style.
Our Vision:
Our vision for this Audi A3 project is twofold. First, we aspire to morph its exterior into the aggressive Audi RS3 style, catching the eye of enthusiasts and passersby alike. Simultaneously, we aim to enhance its performance, drawing inspiration from the versatile Audi S3, creating a vehicle that combines power and precision.
Primary Objective:
Our primary goal is to craft a dependable daily driver, ideal for long road trips, while possessing the power needed to command attention on the highway. We are committed to maintaining a sleek, minimalistic exterior that embodies our unique sense of style.
Initial Exterior Transformation:
Upon acquiring this "new to me" Audi A3, our top priority was addressing the exterior paint. Though in relatively good condition, it bore minor deep scratches and numerous light swirl marks – challenges we were more than capable of conquering, given our expertise as detailers.
Meticulous Paint Preparation:
Meticulous paint preparation marked the inception of our journey. This essential step not only ensures a flawless finish but also prevents potential complications down the road.
Comprehensive Cleaning Process:
Our process commenced with a pre-foam wash, employing Sonax Actifoam Energy. We harnessed its power by filling our 32 oz. MTM PF22 foam cannon with approximately a cap and a half of this potent solution, effectively removing debris, grime, and stubborn bug splatters. After allowing it to work its magic for a few minutes, we erased any traces of dealer-applied wax or sealant.
We then implemented the two-bucket method, utilizing our trusted Detailer's Domain Microfiber Wash Mitt. One bucket was designated for clean water to ensure thorough rinsing, while the other contained Sonax Car Shampoo Concentrate, which we used to delicately cleanse each body panel.
Decontamination Steps:
Next, we carried out a chemical decontamination process using Sonax Fallout Remover. This safe-for-paint solution was expertly applied to each panel to dissolve bonded iron particles. A brief dwelling period allowed us to ensure the removal of invisible impurities. Subsequently, we rinsed the car with a pressure washer to leave no trace of residue drying on the paint.
To efficiently execute mechanical decontamination, we opted for a nanoskin clay pad in conjunction with ONR solution as our clay lube. This approach allowed us to efficiently cover each body panel.
The final phase of our decontamination process involved an IPA wipedown. Each panel received an IPA solution spray, immediately followed by a thorough wipe with a fresh microfiber towel.
